I get a lot of questions about what kinds of shampoo to use on hair extensions.

The truth is, there is no really perfect shampoo for hair extensions.

What can be said about it though is that there are certian types of shampoo and treatments that should be avoided. Anything that has a high ammount of conditioning oils or hot oil treatments should be avoided, also shampoos or styling products that contain high levels of silicone.

Pretty much any product that is made to make your hair look shiny and smooth. High gloss sprays, and silicone gels and the like can cause a pre-mature end to your hair extension experience if they are used often.

If you really want to play it safe you can buy hair extension shampoo from Great Lengths, but I don’t believe it’s really necessary.

Just use common sense with the idea that if you use shampoo or treatments that will make your hair slippery, the higher the chances are that it will give your hair extension bonds less grip, and more slip.

An important part of keeping your hair extensions looking great is spending time every day keeping your  extensions well groomed.

It is ideal to brush your hair extensions 3 times per day. Once in the morning, once in the middle of your day or afternoon, and again before you go to bed. You want to use a soft brissle brush with boars hair and the name of the game is de-tangleing.

When you are brushing, be sure to relieve the tension at the base of your hair by gripping your hair at the base and brushing your hair from the ends of the hair down to the base.

Separate the bonds with your fingers and make sure they don’t cross over one another.
